Davy Jones is a fictional character appearing in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He first appears in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006).
Once a mortal man, Davy Jones was a skilled sailor who fell in love with the sea goddess Calypso. She tasked him with ferrying souls lost at sea to the afterlife and granted him immortality. Betrayed when Calypso did not meet him after his ten years of service, Jones tore out his own heart and locked it away in a chest.
This act transformed him into a monstrous creature, a hybrid of human and sea creature. He became the captain of the Flying Dutchman, a ghost ship cursed to sail the seas eternally, collecting souls for its crew.
